Training Programme on Marigold as Poultry Feed Additive

The ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Regional Station, Vemagiri, Kadiyam organized a hands-on training program on Marigolds as Poultry Feed Additive at ICAR- Central Tobacco Research Institute, Rajahmundry.

Dried fermented marigold powder is rich in lutein (Pigment in marigold) and can be used as a poultry feed additive which will enhance the egg yolk and broiler chicken skin colour and enhance the nutritional profile of poultry products.

Dr. K. V. Prasad, Director, ICAR-DFR, briefed on value addition in flowers for increasing farmers' income and highlighted the high-value nutraceuticals like lutein and marigold fermented powder. He emphasized utilizing marigolds as feed additives in poultry and fisheries.

Dr. Suhrita Chakrbarty, Professor (PHT), AICRP on Floriculture Centre, BCKV, Kalyani demonstrated the process of preparation of dried fermented powder from marigold

Scientists of ICAR-DFR, ICAR-CTRI, ICAR-CTRI KVK, and ICAR-CIFE, Regional Station, Balabhadrapuram also participated in the program.

The event involved stakeholders like flower growers, poultry farmers, veterinary workers, and vocational education students.
